Ony J.W.'s could do this and not question what is going on
by Sour Grapes inat the meeting today several elders commented about the wonderful program that they attended yesterday on the new kingdom hall designs.
they said that the new halls are going to be so beautiful with lots of windows and glass panels and that the lights will be kept on in the lobby 24/7 so that you can see into the hall at night and that thousands of these halls must be built.
then five minutes later they are talking about how close the end is and that we will be meeting in basements in the near future.

Do Jehovah Witnesses give out mis-information deliberately?
by smiddy indo you think it is possible that the g.b.is deliberately giving out mis-information to confuse either apostates or media that might be investigating them for one reason or another ?
speak out of both corners of their mouth .
and the reason they do so ?

OnTheWayOut: "There are times when their changes back and forth don't seem to make sense: Will the men of Sodom be resurrected?"
I think I may know the reason why. The scripture is clear that they will be resurrected (but not in the JW sense) so the literal reading of it is their default.
However, what happens to your John Doe publisher if they actually believe the Sodomites are to be resurrected (To their paradise). He will simply wake up one Saturday morning and reason to himself "Why should I go out in field service when the Sodomites are to be resurrected? If they are to be resurrected then Armageddon should not have any deaths and/or those who die in it should be worthy of a resurrection. After all aren't the Sodomites as bad as they come? If so then anyone could be resurrected.
Then John Doe publisher goes back to sleep because his work has no meaningful urgency.
The Watchtower may be aware of such thinking, probably through letters written to them, and has to change their position again to the "no resurrection for Sodomites" position. But when they do that they come up full circle with the plain and uninterpretable statement of Jesus in Matthew 11:24: "But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you." - NIV
So they go full circle over and over.
Please tell me that makes no sense!

runForever: "It is going to be really funny to see when they actually announce the tribulation or attack on God's people or something which they eventually will have to."
They'll never announce the Great Tribulation. First of all, the UN will never make any "peace and security" announcement. Secondly, Babylon the Great - Christendom and company - will never be attacked by any government forces. Third, no one's going to come out to get the Witnesses like they expect them to.

George Orwell called it double-think in his book 1984. Just hold two opposing thoughts together at the same time and see no contradiction. -

Now that was a quick fade.
Seriously now, good for you. We each have our own special way of severing our ties.

WHY MONOTHEISM WINS the historical competition among gods and beliefs
by TerryWalstrom inamong the hundreds (if not thousands) of competing religious beliefs, practices, rituals, and faiths in the developing years of early christianity--and arguably against all odds--christian monotheism won.
for awhile, the thoroughly pagan roman empire became officially christianized.. why?.
could it be a simple fact?.

TerryWalstrom: "SCARY THOUGHT OF THE DAY: Jehovah's Witnesses' extreme evangelizing and exclusions border on the pathological. Could this strategy be the sole reason such cults as JW's, Mormons, and the phobic Islam, are growing like weeds in an untended garden?"
Terry, I haven't checked the stats lately but I believe that JWs are not really growing that much and their numbers are fudged.
Mormons are growing but Islam is not so much growing - it has no evangelists - but radical Islam is growing within it's own not so radical ranks.
If you want to see something real scary research the New Apostolic Reformation. That is a growing cult of hyper-charismatic Christians that has been growing enormously within ordinary Evangelical ranks. They were the ones that sponsored Rick Perry's "The Response". and have made inroads into Republican politics in general.

Stephen Fry on God: What would you say to him if he did exist?

I think he better be careful where he says that. There are blasphemy laws where you least expect them. Like Canada.
Other than that, I agree with him completely.

Toddler accidentally shoots woman dead in Idaho Walmart
by nicolaou ina woman has been shot dead by a 2-year-old in a wal-mart store in idaho.. .
the 29-year-old was shopping with four children in the store in hayden, when the two-year-old reached into her handbag and fired the weapon, shooting her dead.. initial reports suggested the woman was the boy's mother, but the police have said that this is as yet unclear how they are related.. source; http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/toddler-accidentally-shoots-woman-in-idaho-walmart-9950847.html.

Simon: "I can't believe anyone ever opposes such a thing."
This might seem hard to believe, given the present state of things, but there was a time, back in the 1980s, when the NRA was in favor of a background check. The situation was this, Liberals wanted a traditional background check - which in those days involved bureaucrats and filing cabinets - but the NRA wanted a computerized background check which involved computers which were relatively recent technology.
The Liberal media actually opposed the computerized background check because they said it was too expensive. Back then computers up to the task would have had some expense but not enough to justify the Liberal position, especially in contrast to an archaic bureaucracy with paper records.
I know this because I was there witnessing the issue unfold from both perspectives.
